This hot air station requires modifications before it would be considered safe to use. The grounding of the hot air gun tip is not done properly and will require the station to be opened up and wired correctly. In my unit I have also found that the fuse was put on the neutral wire instead of the hot. With the hot wire running to the switch directly, this will not protect you if there is a short anywhere before the switch. After making all of the necessary modifications, the station runs great and desolders without any issues.

Quality is medium... but it works well. Warms up very quickly when the hand-piece is removed from its cradle. Fan stays on when hand-piece is returned to the cradle until the temperature of the hand-piece falls below 100 degrees. Is also very quiet.

I used this 858d soldering rework station to remove some surface mounted ships on a control board for a tv I was working on and it worked excellent removing the chip in about 1 minute on high heat with a low air speed. Both the air speed and the heat setting are adjustable. When you set the handle down on the holder the fan runs for a while to cool the unit down.

Does not have the auto-off feature when holstered, but I personally don't need it. Comes up to temp quickly (by default 300 Celsius), remembers the last temp you set which is nice.

I build and fly RC model sailplanes and am inclined to do lots of soldering projects. Prior to finding this hand tool, I always used my mono-kote heat gun to do the deed. Now with this Rework Station I can do the job much more easily with greater precision. I recommend this tool for any hobbyist who does a lot of soldering projects where heat-shrink tubing is part of the process.
