I'm not extremely experienced with soldering but I'm way past the 'newb' level. More accurately my success at DEsoldering has been hit or miss. I have tied many pump style desoldering tools both heated and non-heated. This 40w desoldering tool has given me near perfectly clean holes with the component falling out with almost no effort. Always use flux and always add fresh solder to the component before desoldering whether it's surface mounted or through the pcb. I rarely rely on reviews for products like this due to success with the product depends on the reviewer's skill level. So I decided to try this particular model due to it having a real 3-prong grounded plug (for U.S). So I'm thrilled that it actually works too.

It did not work for my use.I would need a desoldering iron, which can remove ATX power connectors from PC mainboards, and rework large filter caps in those multilayer boards. Due to the ground plane, they will take lots of heat away from the join 40 Watt is not sufficient to melt those joints.

The product feels cheap but it works so well I don’t care!

Sure it’s only 40W, so large ground plains might not be advisable, but I just zipped out a Battery and an LED in a fraction of the time. Surprised me how good it worked. Heat up the solder make sure the hole is directly over on the solder you want out, push the button and the solder is long gone. Nothing but loose pins and falling out components. Best component swap EVER!
