Product Information

The Flexcut Palm and Knife Set combines the popular Flexcut Carving Knife Set with the equally popular Flexcut Palm Tool Set. This basic set provides a wide range of woodcarving design possibilities for beginner and experienced carvers. The set has four razor sharp carving knives for paring, cutting, and smoothing wood. These are the KN12 Cutting Knife, the KN18 Pelican Knife, the KN13 Detail Knife, and the KN27 Mini-Detail Knife. The FR309 #11 x 1/8-inch Gouge and the FR306 #6 x 5/16-inch Gouge are part of the five Palm tools. The other tools included are the FR305 #3 x 3/8-inch Gouge, the FR307 70 degree x 1/4-inch V-Tool, and the FR308 #2 x 5/16-inch Skew. For superior edge-holding ability, Flexcut makes the blades from high-carbon steel. The tools have an ash handle that is ergonomically designed to prevent hand fatigue. This also allows for longer carving time. The set comes in a sturdy wood storage box for added portability. Flexcut Carving Tools are made in the USA. To help learn the best uses for each of the tools here is a breakdown of the set. KN12 Cutting Knives have a 1 1/4-inch rounded-point blade for general purpose carving. KN18 Pelican Knives have a 1 5/8-inch curved blade. Use it for slicing, cutting in hollow areas, or working in an area with a tight turning radius. The 1 1/2-inch KN13 Detail and the 3/4-inch KN27 Mini-Detail Knives have thin straight blades with fine points to make delicate cuts. The handle on the mini KN27 is designed with multiple control points for holding in a variety of positions. The FR309 #11 x 1/8-inch, the FR306 #6 x 5/16-inch, and the FR305 #3 x 3/8-inch Gouge tools have curved cutting edges. This is for carving hollows, rounds, and curves. Gouge tools are used more often than any other woodcarving tool. The FR307 70 degree x 1/4-inch V-Tool has a V-shaped cutting edge for outlining, emphasizing lines, and making decorative cuts. The FR308 #2 x 5/16-inch Skew is a chisel, but instead of the blade being straight across, it is slanted. With this set of Flexcut woodcarving tools, you, or the carver you know, can create anything imaginable. If this set is intended for a beginner, then choosing butternut, basswood, or even white pine to carve is recommended. Mahogany is for those with intermediate-level skills. Woodworking experts can try sugar maple, white oak, cherry, or black walnut. To maintain these tools, first and foremost, it is important to keep them sharp. So, taking time for sharpening them as you work makes certain that these tools are always ready for their next use. If the tools are often used, they are less likely to rust. Always store them in a dry environment, and wipe them with oil or a cleaner intended for these tools. The cleaner is a better choice because it is designed specifically for wood handles.

A Must have set of carvers!
As a beginer i was not sure which knives to buy. After much research i decided to purchase this set. Instead of peice mealing a set, buying one knive at a time, it was much cheaper buying the set. Great USA made quality. You really do get what you pay for. Great feel in the hand, extremely sharp out of the box. I was pleasantly surprized on how well these knives cut. When you have the right tool for the job, it becomes a much more pleasurable hobby! Invest in the best! Dont cheap out. Great company i purchased from. Will definitly do business with this company again. Thanks again!

Great for details.
Great quality and holds an edge amazingly. A lot better suited for detailed work, but can take off some material quick if need be. Definitely worth the price, only reason I put it at 4 stars is I feel it could come in a better case (tools aren't very secure and move around).
