Loved this book! Jaycee was abused her whole life and came out the other side able to smile somehow. She had two children while kidnapped by the man who abducted her. She was allowed th be her daughters sister and not their mother. She was kept in a backyard where people could see her where parole officers came 60 different times and even saw Jaycee (when she was older)and no help ever came. If it was not for Philip (the pedifile) taking Jaycee to the parole office Jaycee and her daughters could posibilly still be in captivity. That is so sad and disturbing that no one was there to help her! Jaycee will continue to do everyday things for herself and her children. Things that she was never allowed to do like make any decision. But she grows and learns everyday. Her book is not about hate. It is not about a victim but a survivor! Jaycee has been reunited with her own family and friends. She has had to get to know them all over again. She was gone for 18 years. Her sister was in diapers when she was taken and is now grown. Jaycee is making it and will continue to make her own way in this world! I would recommend this book to anyone who has been wronged by another. We can all learn from Jaycee about forgivness and the ability to live and get through and get past the bad stuff and LIVE!Read full review
Oh God. Well, this book is hearwrenching, yet told well by the author in regards to her first-hand experience being kidnapped at age 12 by her captors and rapist...if you don't know the story of Jaycee Dugard, look it up. She is such an intelligent young woman and was an intelligent child. She even recognizes she's in arrested development but at her release, begins therapy (KUDOS to her no-doubt GREAT therapist!) and decided to write it all down. There are many excerpts from her journals and many thoughts both now about then and strictly about then. I don't know her and don't know what life is like for her now, but in the interviews and according to the book, she is accepting and working through everything that has happened to her. She has LOTS of love around her, which is a great thing to have goin' on. Her love of animals (especially kitties!!!!) I truly believe is what got her through the ordeal, which attests to the power of the human-animal bond. In fact, she writes in her journal that if she "ever makes it outta here" she wants to start a retreat or camp for people who have been abused or hurt in some way and animals (not exactly what she says but just to get the picture across) and that is precisely what she has done. Amazing. It really is a testament to the power and strength that is found in the human psyche and what we will do to stay alive and (somewhat) sane in insane conditions. By all means, if you are curious about her story, buy the book like I did, and read it.Read full review

Jaycee was just a little girl when this horrid human being kidnapped her. Jaycee was brave and strong enough to detail graphic details of what pedophile men do to poor little and defenseless children. He truly stole her life, her self, her true personality. However, she was able to stay strong and overcome her past. What an incredible message for all of those who have been thru traumatic events! We all need to be thankful for the little things we have in life.

Jaycee is an amazing little girl forced to grow up in the absolute worst of any conditions imaginable. She was with the worst of the worst two people for so many years... With everything she endured she turned out to be an amazing person and mother. God bless her and her family.
