I used the electric version for many years, and when I purchased the 18V model, I was surprised that it actually had a weightiness to it and it felt like a solid tool, unlike a lot of battery operated tools. To be honest, it performs as strong and smoothly as the corded version, and you no longer have to deal with a cord when you are making a precise pass on the edge of a door.

It doesn't weigh a ton, it has plenty of power, I've used it a bit, but not enough to, really, test the battery life yet. But if you're planeing something that big, you should probably grab its Corded cousin. I do have two minor complaints though. One, the indicator for the depth knob could be marked with a dab of White paint or such, instead of being body color, so that it is easier to see, took me a minute to realize that it was 180 degrees from where I thought it Was, (I set it to full depth, but it's not cutti....Oh, I guess that's Zero, OOPS!! Two, I could be just a little bit wider so that it takes the same blades as it's Corded predecessor, and would cover an entire face of a 4"x4" etc. Also, though not a necessity, a dust bag wouldn't be a bad Idea either.

My only complaint is im having a hard time finding a dust bag for it the manual that came with it has no part number for it and none of my other Makita tools with dust bags will not fit it maybe there is a adapter for it but no part number for a different nozzle is listed either other then that i am happy with the tool.

Lots of power, quiet, easy to hold, NO CORD to plane over or keep out of work! Works well so far, but I can't rate longevity as it is new to me.

Great product. I am slowly moving into Makita cordles. Great addition to my stash of tools. E-Bay also is a great platform.
