  • So much more than in his car.

If all you know of Gary Numan is his mega-hit Cars then you don't really know him much at all. On this album, his first and originally credited to Tubeway Army with Gary Numan just one of the band, there is a spectacular blast of guitar driven synthesizer punk fueled rock. A twenty year old Numan unleashes his raw and beyond unique musical and vocal talents on an unsuspecting world just beginning to come to accept the swan song of what had become a stultifying and near useless and bloated rock scene. Before being the standard bearer of the synthesizer movement of new wave there was this, a stunning and brilliant blasting of some kind of music that is still hard to pigeonhole. Power pop to punky perfection works though .

  • I had ALMOST forgotten how much I loved this fine Gary Numan album...

...if you don't have it,you should...if you liked "The Pleasure Principal",you'll love this...the arrangements are spare, and it's Numan's first experiment using keyboards...nice to hear him playing some SCORCHING electric guitar,as well...after more than 30 years, this record still sounds fresh, contemporary, and not at all dated, like many "New Wave" records from that era...my friends at the time thought that I had lost my mind, but it was NOTHING like what AOR/MOR FM radio was playing back in '78-'79...buy it,put on the headphones, open up a beer, and TURN IT UP...

  • An evolution album of the their sound.

This album is for true fans. It's the kind of album you enjoy because you get to hear the evolution of the band and get a sense of how they started. The bonus disk is fun to hear their early years live as a punk act, but it's that type of music in which you hear a few songs and you get the gist. Overall a great album to add to your collection if you are a big fan.

  • music from the golden era + bonus tracks

it wasn't my golden era but it WAS the tubeway machine's. the band plays like zeppelin... minus the rhythm section holding it down....
