SRAM sells specific derailleurs for 1x and 2x / 3x setups, but they are not mutually exclusive. I'm using this RD on a 1x10 setup along with a Sunrace 11-42 cassette. It's a tight squeeze, but it can be done. Shifting is excellent with the GX 10 speed shifter. This RD is perfect for almost everyone, except perhaps the most demanding of cyclists.

I wanted to up grade to a better newer model, it cost me more. The GX looks great and I think for the price is not bad if you already are planning to up grade to this derailleur With shifter for ten speed. My X5 shifter was working ok, so I thought with the X5 Derailleur but when I installed the GX Derailleur I found I could not get proper adjustment out of it. At this time I'm waiting for my new GX 10 speed shifter see if that will work good. When I install my X5 Derailleur with shifter everything work just find, It seems I can only get 9 gear with the GX Derailleur this is why I have order the new shifter. Also in the center gears it dose not quite shift as smooth as my X5 system no matter what I have tried to do. I hope this helps you decide, I can't say how it will work with the correct shifter because at this time I do not have it. Read full review

The good: Quick and precise shifting, stable chain handling, and easy to use. The bad: The cage was stuck in place out of the box and it took a lot of force to free it. The expected: This rear mech is used on my street bike and so I added a barrel adjuster to the shift cable. Very high quality piece of kit.

GX rear derailleur is compatible with older SRAM Exact Actuation shifters and has a clutch to stop chain slap and dropped chains. It works well, easy to set up, and even black matte finish is pleasing to look at. I don't see a reason to spend more $$ on a higher end derailleur - GX level works perfectly.

I upgraded from a Shimano Sora drivetrain to a SRAM drivetrain on my Salsa Vaya 3. Huge improvement. Got to a lower gear inch that needed for touring in steep country, and shifting is so much crisper. Love it. Anyway, a nice rear derailleur that works with the rest of the MTB-setup. I used APEX shifters, X5 crank, X7 front derailleur. All together was a decent price for big upgrade. No miles on it yet but so far beautiful. But based on my other bikes with similar components, I'll enjoy a lot of miles from this.
