it looks like it’s going to be a good movie. Of course it will be a little while before I had the time to view it, but the rating is going up that I could allow my children and grandchildren watch it so I’m looking forward to this. PS. If my children or grandchildren can’t watch something why should I set a bad example? Thank you so much. Charley Langley

One of the funniest movies ever

Even though the Critics did not like it, 1941 was one of the funniest movies ever made. The case was top notch with John Belushi, Dan Ankroyd, Robert Stack, Slim Pickens and many many others. One of the funniest scenes was at the start where the skinny dipper swims out recreating the opening scene from Jaws, but with a hilarious outcome. The same actress from Jaws was also in this scene. This DVD has a ton of special features along with a feature length Making Of biography. This DVD also has the Directors Cut with over 20 minutes that never appeared in the Theatrical Release.

  • An inconsistent movie overall, but parts are sublime

While overall this movie is inconsistent and disappoints at times, it contains some scenes that are some of my all-time favorites in cinema. These sublime moments make up for the dumb parts of the film. Particularly hilarious are Slim Pickens' scenes! The scene where Slim describes each ridiculous object the Japanese sailors have confiscated from him is just hysterical. You gotta' love Warren Oates' portrayal of the paranoid home defense force commander - "...check 'im for stilts..." Dan Aykroyd with two oranges covering his eyes and wearing pantyhose on his head saying, "I'm a bug"! is also a classic. The music is great, especially John Williams' own swing music creation, "Swing, Swing, Swing" (a parody of the big band classic, "Sing, Sing, Sing") used during the USO scene. How ...

  • Happy with DVD of 1941

One of my all time favorites and now it has a lot of footage that was not in the theatrical release or on VHS format, which I had for over ten years. DVD is my thing now and this one is great! Nothing more I can say except that I am happy with it and the efforts to get it to me. Bravo!

  • How california won WWII

I watch this movie when it first came out .... it was funny then it is even funnier now. The premise for the whole movie is when the only attack on US soil during WWII was in Southern California, Los Angeles , during the zootsuits riots. The movie is kind of factual in the events that took place during WWII but gets kind of wild as the writer includes his version of what happen that night. But it in the southern california los angeles way we get involved in the battle.... I quote Captin:'Do you see any Planes' gunner: ' No, but we're shooting at them.' The funny thing is I kind of want to find out some of the facts in the movie.. for instance did the japanese sub get lost because they could not create a compus? Was it really called hollywoodland. Did the shells from the sub that attack US ...

  • 1941 with John Belushi

I loved this movie. The music was great and correct for the year 1941. The P40A was painted and marked correctly for the time period and so was the General Grant army Tank. I loved the scene where John Belushi side slipped his P40A down to a landing on that narrow road at the gasoline station. Also loved the scene where Belushi flew his plane down in the Grand Canyon sloshed down his coke and did a barrel roll as he flew out of the canyon. Each character was funny in their own way. Lorraine Gray could not have been cutier. I have no complaints about the movie. I can watch it over and over. My wife thinks I am crazy, but that is ok. She just don't know how the appreciate the finer things in life.
