About this product

Product Information

David Lynch strikes again with this literal nightmare of a motion picture--a brilliant, scathing, hysterical, and haunting ode to Hollywood. In the film, a mysterious dark-haired woman (Laura Elena Harring) emerges from an accident with a purse full of cash and a head full of amnesia. Meanwhile, Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), a wide-eyed gal from Deep River, Ontario, has just landed in Los Angeles with dreams of movie super stardom. When Betty finds the nameless beauty in her aunt's apartment, she is deeply intrigued by the situation and offers to help her. This sends the two women on a bizarre search for the truth through the macabre, sun-soaked streets of the City of Angels, where the mob, a young film director (Justin Theroux), a studio executive with a tiny head, and an enigmatic figure named the Cowboy all float into the picture, then out again, until there is no longer any distinction between what is dream and what is reality.Originally filmed as a pilot for ABC, Lynch's daring, open-ended vision was coldly rejected by the network. As he was about to abandon the project, French producer Pierre Edelman convinced Lynch to rethink it as a feature. The result is this stunning expression of the subconscious, a testament to the power of personal artistic vision.

    Top of the Line WIERD

This movie will mess with you head from beginning to end. The ending is reminiscent of a line from "Evita:" there is no one, no one at all, never has been and never will be a lover, male or female, who hasn't an eye on in fact they rely on, tricks they can try on their partner, they're hoping their lover will help them or keep them, support them, promote them--don't blame her, you're the same.

  • Interesting movie, but confusing as hell with way too many jump cut edits!

Good movie overall, except these screenplay writers and directors who live with their scripts must get too easily bored. What else would explain their logic for jamming tons of "JUMP CUT EDITS" into the final part of this movie? They must live with the script for SO LONG, that they get bored with the normal story line. They try TOO HARD to appear edgey and extra clever by slamming the viewer with so many out of sequence scenes it would take a master-mind detective from Scotland Yard who smokes crack to make some sense out of the butchered final scenes of the movie. A word to Hollyweird creative types: quit trying to outwit each other and your audiences by using too many jump edits like other cliche' films have done in the past. Just because you attempt to make the audience confused ...

  • Mulholland Dr.

This is the weirdest movie I have ever seen in my life! The plots are loose and there are many sub plots that lead to nowhere. The storyline is a mess and nothing makes any sense. The end resolves nothing and you are left wondering what the hell happened in the last 2.5 hours. The only thing I admire is David Lynch's filming style. There is an eerieness to the ambiance of the film where nothing seems real and everything is a dream. I cannot recommend this movie to the general public but perhaps to those who have an abstract thought process and are studying directing techniques.

  • Made My Head Ache

I enjoy movies. Movies entertain me and take me away from my otherwise ordinary life. My husband and I got a copy of Mulholland Drive to watch together one evening. It looked and sounded extremely intriguing! We were both rivited....but rivited out of total confusion! Why the tiny people? Why the lesbian sex scenes? What exactly is going on here? The movie starts out normally but then throws you into a tail spin. If you like artsy films full of symbolism and confusing metaphors...this film is for you! Beautifully filmed and acted, your machine-like, creative brain will be in Heaven. If, like us, you simply want to be entertained, pass this one up!
