Former tour manager and plane crash survivor Ron Eckerman reveals the rigors of life on the road as Lynyrd Skynyrd takes the world by storm in 1976, and the ironic turn of events preceding the tragic plane crash in 1977. This book was originally released in 2011 by Ron Eckerman.This is an August 2014 re-release with photos included, in memory of Ron Eckerman. He lost a one year battle against acute myeloid leukemia in May of 2014. He requested just a few weeks prior to his passing that his book would be re-released and for any proceeds to be donated to the Leukemia Foundation. A book about Ron's cancer battle, "The Last Tour: Love, Laughter, and Tears" was released in November of 2014 by his wife and caregiver, about his courageous battle against leukemia. He never gave up hope and he never stopped smiling. It is available on Amazon as a paperback as well as Kindle and soon to be released audio book.

Ron Eckerman, (last tour manager) gives more insight than any other so far!
Ron Eckerman writes a fairly short but most complete book on the band and Ronnie Van Zant so far. I have read them all except the Marley book. The Gene Odum "best friend" books,are nonsense,Odum game is doing song review and sucking up to the current tribute band. Who wants to listen to a self described old redneck like Odum give song review? Do we care Gene that you think the Compilation albums later releases are better than the original 5 band albums? Note to Gene odum-People buy books to get inside the band, and since you were left behind until the last 6 months you have nothing to tell! BUT BACK TO THIS BOOK, Ron Eckerman was the last tour manager, he literally settled with the box office nightly, carried the daily cash, and dealt with the band nightly their last couple years.He had a ... After recovering from the plane crash, Ron Eckerman went on to produce in television, film, and stage, and taught theater and artist management at Santa Monica College. In May of 2013, Ron took on the biggest challenge of his life when he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He unfortunately lost his battle on May 11, 2014. It was one of his final wishes to have his book re-released and photos added and a cover change, and to have all profits donated to the Leukemia Foundation of Texas. Ron provides the reader with an excellent insight into the daily "on the road" lives of Lynyrd Skynrd, This book is so well written and very absorbing for fans who want a "fly on the wall" view of one amazing band. It gives us such great insight into the day by day management of a bunch of rowdy ... Don't be coned into believing the stories in Ronnie Vanzant's so called "best friends" book. This is the real deal if you want the true story of Skynyrd's golden years. This book is so much more than story about life on the road this is a book that gives you a true insight in the legendary singer Ronnie Van Zant. Kept me in suspense while learning about life on the road with one of the most prolific bands of all time and gets you an inside view of what and when things took place during their tours with an excellent insight into the daily "on the road" happenings. I truly hope Hollywood will do a movie based on this book. All Lynyrd Skynyrd fans who want a true insight of the original band really need to get this book.
