I searched on ebay for a particular song that was running through my head for a few days. Of course, ebay gives me albums with that song on the album. That makes common sense to me because that is how music comes. Of course the single cut was on several albums, and by several different artists. Some of the artists were completely unknown to me. I wanted the music by what I considered to be the original artist. But, then I don't know for sure if anyone had ever done an earlier version. Still don't know, but the CD I purchased has "my generation" artists, so I consider that to be the original. I read through sever CD descriptions before finding exactly the right one for me. Paying special attention to the wording so I wouldn't get tripped up and actually purchase something I didn't want. I want a seller with really high feedback, or at least high within the last several months. If the seller has lots of negative feedback and it is OLD stuff, I take that to mean they learned their lessons the hard way and don't hold that against them too much. I know also, I will receive the very same service as others who have bought from them in the past. Sellers just don't single out one buyer to give good customer service to. If you buy something from a seller with lots of negative feedback, recently, you just as well count on adding your own negative comments to the list. You are taking a big chance. So, I bought the original soundtrack on CD with the original artwork. Beautiful music and memories! It was meant for me.Read full review
When a lot of other bands were playing cheesy pop or disco Bob was still a rocker and going strong. "Against the Wind" is a great mixture of rock songs that sound like they could be even older than they really are, and a couple really awesome ballads. This cd flows so well, every song is lyrically outstanding, and musically perfect. This is easily one of Segers' best studio releases, I personally rank it up there with "Night Moves" and if your a fan then this cd is a must own for you.
At the end of the day an album is about the songs, not the format. I would prefer if this album was in 5.1 on sacd, dvd-a or blu ray audio but that's super unlikely so I purchased the cd. Whether you like cd's, records or downloads this is the kind of album you should have in your collection. Although the versions on the live "nine tonight" album are a bit more ballsy (and that is pretty much an essential rock and roll album) the songs on this album are classics and would stand up with just acoustic guitar and vocals. The arrangements are good, the silver bullet band are good and bob still had his voice at full power. The title track is a classic and I think should be appreciated by all ages for it's lyric and musical accompaniment. you'll accompany me is a lively love song that again is pretty much an instant classic. horizontal bop is a straight up rock and roll party song. her strut (especially the live version) is a wonderful piece of sleaze rock. no man's land is an excellent ballad. good for me is one of bob's best love songs. betty lou's getting out tonight is classic rave it up rock. fir lake is an all time classic and the other couple of songs hold their own. This may not be his best album (i absolutely love " the distance") but it is an essential bob seger albumRead full review

"ATW" is the middle album of Seger's string of top notch records. The album has no weak songs and four or five of the songs charted as singles. The album entered the charts as number 1 or 2 and is probably his best selling record. It represents Bob Seger at the top of his game. Half of the album also appears on "Nine Tonight", which was the live record from the "ATW" tour and several are on the "Greatest Hits I and II". Regardless of anyone's devotion to Seger, anyone will enjoy this album.
I first heard this album back in 1982. It is timeless. This is when Bob Seger was at the top of his game in voice and in composition. However, his new CD Face the Promise he seems to have re-lit the fire that was missing from his past CD's ever since It's a Mystery. This CD will provide you the classic Detroit's Native Son's best music in fast crisp rock and of course the CD title Against the Wind stands as tall as Night Moves! If you are a Seger fan and do not have this CD in your collection than you really are not a Seger fan!
