About this product

Product Information

Colleen McCullough's sweeping saga of dreams, struggles, dark passions, and forbidden love in the Australian Outback has enthralled readers the world over. This is the chronicle of three generations of Clearys, ranchers carving lives from a beautiful, hard land while contending with the bitterness, frailty, and secrets that penetrate their family. Most of all, it is the story of only daughter Meggie and her lifelong relationship with the haunted priest Father Ralph de Bricassart-an intense joining of two hearts and souls that dangerously oversteps sacred boundaries of ethics and dogma. A poignant love story, a powerful epic of struggle and sacrifice, a celebration of individuality and spirit, Colleen McCullough's acclaimed masterwork remains a monumental literary achievement-a landmark novel to be cherished and read again and again. Happy 40th Anniversary THORN BIRDS

I read this book decades ago and it launched my love for Colleen McCullough's body of work. The Thorn Birds remains one of the most compelling and satisfying epics I've ever read. How appropriate that I found the opportunity to revisit it 40 years later. With a stunning setting and intricate, fleshed-out characters, McCullough weaves a masterful story that grabs the reader early on and simply refuses to let go. I bought a 1st edition copy for a dear friend's birthday. If you haven't read this novel, hold on and enjoy the ride of your life because you're in for a real treat!

  • Great!

Decided to get the book based on curiosity after watching Seth Meyers’ show. A sweeping love story that makes for perfect reading during quarantine

  • Worth taking the time to read

This book is fantastic. It's different in many areas from the movie. This keeps the interest going. I am glad that I saw the movie first. So, Yes, if you've seen the movie you still need to read the book. There are some things in the book I do wish they would have put in the movie. There are some things in the movie that would have been good in the book. I've not been so in to reading a book as I have The Thorn Birds. I highly recommend the book to all my friends and even my sister. You won't be disappointed. I will be reading the book again. Will probably wear it out like I'll probably wear out the DVD.

  • Family Saga of Choices

It’s a saga of choices made in life and their effects on the next generation. Like pride causes suffering rather than humility causes love. And greed causes suffering for the one you love at the price for pride for one’s self!

  • Bad choice of a book as volume 1 is not included.

Volume 2 is no good without volume 1. Had I realized that I would not have purchased it.
