About this product

Product Information

With his bestselling All Over but the Shoutin' , Rick Bragg gave us memorable stories of his own childhood. In Somebody Told Me , he offers the best of his work as a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist writing the remarkable stories of others. For twenty years, Bragg has focused his efforts on the common man. So while some of these stories are about people whose names we know-such as Susan Smith, the South Carolina mother who drowned her two sons-most are people whose names we've never heard, people who have survived tornadoes and swamps, racism and bombs. In incisive, unadorned prose that is nonetheless strikingly beautiful, these pieces rise above journalism to become literature and show the triumph of the human spirit.

  • Somebody Told Me

I love the writings of Rick Bragg. His stories are so easy to relate to. Living in the South, it is great to see an author write about things that are commonplace to me. He writes about things that a person would never think of like what happens to seniors in prisons. That story was so touching. And, his story about ice tea was great. For years, the only way a person thought of tea was sweet with ice. I recommend Bragg to anyone who enjoys a good read. I have seen him in person twice and he is as wonderful in person as he is in his writings. A polite, southern gentleman. If he ever comes close by, I recommend attending one of his readings.

  • SOMEBODY TOLD MEby RICK BRAGG

I purchased this book because I like Rick Bragg's work, he usually is a very prolific ,descriptive writer, however in this work I was a little disappointed, not just because the book consists of his news articles, but because it seemed to me maybe the effort just wasn't there. When another of his works comes along... I will give it another try and hope the old Rick will have come back.I do not think there is a better modern day southern writer than Rick Bragg.. I hope he will return.
