About this product

Product Information

A first-ever, indispensable, all-in-one resource for the millions of people with diabetes who use insulin Few diabetes books focus specifically on the day-to-day issues facing people who use insulin. Diabetes educator Gary Scheiner provides the tools to "think like a pancreas"--to successfully master the art and science of matching insulin to the body's ever-changing needs. Comprehensive, free of medical jargon, and packed with useful information not readily available elsewhere, this new edition covers the many strides taken in diabetes education and management since the previous edition. Think Like a Pancreas includes critical information, such as day-to-day blood glucose control and monitoring, designing an insulin program to best match your lifestyle, up-to date medication and technology, and new insulin formulations and combinations.

  • Not a really healthy way to treat your pancreas in this book. Mine asked for a vacation years ago when I followed the ADa

This book uses the excessive carbs and sugars level of the 6.0 to 7.0 blood sugar levels and that is the level that almost killed my kidneys by March, 2013 so I changed and went low carb and saved my kidneys. This book is also a little difficut to follow unless you take the kinds and types of insulin it mentions. I only take R and N if and when needed. I very seldom need R any more but I still need N even if it is down from the old 100 units 2X a day and now I use 25 units 2X a day. But if I ate the carbs and followed the meal plan HE recommends, I'd be back to where I started with A1c that topped out at 9.8 some years ago. Now my 1c has been 4.7 mg/dL for 9 months and 4.8 mg/dL for the last one in December, 2018. I antici[ate my next lab work will be back at the 4.7 mg/dL which is a ...

  • Must have for diabetics new to injections or the pump!

I bought the book because I have to return my library copy. I don't know about you, but the real information you need from the doctor to start basal and bolus injections or pumping insulin is minimal or sketchy at best. There are so many factors influencing just where to start and where to go from there that a physician just can't spend that kind of time with you. Maybe it's very inconvenient or impossible to get to an endocrinologist or to classes. This book will give you the information you need to avoid doing more harm than good! Formulas are there for titrating your bolus/bolus/pump insulin based on weight, based on your personal rate of absorption, what to do when things go wrong, all the what, where, whens and hows you need to know to get your blood sugars under control. There ...

  • Very comprehensible

Bought it and a few others for my newly diagnosed daughter. She loved it. It was written in a way that was encouraging and made diabetes easy to understand. By far her favorite source of information.
