We have a few cheap beginner ukuleles now of a few different brands. $18 to $45 in range. I got the Makala Shark for $39.99 because of an open box deal. Typically $49.99. This one is a great. It has a very nice crisp sound, louder than the rest but not obnoxious. Fun to play and enjoyable to learn on.

Great little uke you can take anywhere, even gig with it if necessary. Looks cool and has nice playability and good sound. No comparison to a solid wood uke but a very nice instrument for the money. The Soprano size makes it easier for beginners and youngsters with small hands. Don't be put off by the plastic body. The top, bridge, neck and fingerboard are all wood making for a nice mellow tone. Also comes with Aquila strings and a gig bag. For the price, you really can't go wrong.

Bought this on a whim to amuse myself. Always wanted to play an instrument and heard the ukulele was fairly easy to learn . Surprisingly this little ukelele is loud and after a week or so the strings have stretched enough to not need constant tuning. All the advice says not to buy a ukelele under $100 but this little instrument proves that advice wrong. Highly recommend for a beginner and even for more experienced players.

This is a fantastic uke for a beginner like me with a narrow neck and great sound once I tuned it with the free lessons on Kala website. It is an awesome color and sounds lively especially considering the low price. Would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn to play a ukulele.
