About this product

Product Information

Martin Scorsese's telling of the life story of the 14th Dalai Lama is a spiritual and deeply moving event. Barely able to walk, the young Tenzin Gyatso (played respectively by Tulku Jamyang Kung Tenzin, Gyurme Tethong, and Tenzin Thuthob Tsarong) is identified as the newly reincarnated form of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Leaving his family behind in order to live in a monastery, he grows to manhood in spiritual isolation, sheltered from the influences of Western worldliness and the dangerous encroachment of the Chinese army, which invaded Tibet in 1950 and forced the Buddhist leaders into exile. Preaching peace and understanding among all people, the Dalai Lama eventually travels to China to meet Chairman Mao Tse Tung, to no avail. In a heartbreaking decision, the Dalai Lama must choose whether to remain in Tibet and fight for his people or flee his homeland and avert almost certain death.Scorsese's obvious affection and dedication to the Tibetan leader shines through in every frame of the picture, which features stellar performances by its mostly nonprofessional cast. Adding infinite depth to the story are Roger Deakins's cinematography and Philip Glass's score, which earned both men Oscar nominations. Politics and religion aside, KUNDUN is filmmaking at its most profound and beautiful.

There was an issue with USPS and when I told the seller they were quick in trying to resolve the issue. When it was clear USPS wouldn’t have it solved in a timely manner the seller sent another copy of the item I ordered with the completely fair agreement that should I ever receive the first item that I send it back to them. Item was packaged well and sent promptly.

It was an old movie that I found so interesting.

I have gotten interested in Buddhism and this movie was very engaging. So glad we can still find old things in good shape.

  • Story of the life of the 14th Dalai Lama in Tibet.

I rented this movie and watched it 3 times. It was made so well and gives the viewer an inside look at the customs of the Tibetan people before the Chinese occupation. One also gets to see what trials the people endured while continuing their quest to be an independent nation. The philosophy of Buddhism is also well portrayed and the actor portraying the adult Dalai Lama did an OUTSTANDING job, full of grace. I don't know of any actor who could have done a better job. The movie is well made, has beautiful scenes of the country, and gives the viewer all aspects of Tibetan life, even the gritty, gory, details on how Tibetans are put in their final resting place. (They have the wake, per se, then ceremoniously dismember the body & feed it to the vultures who patiently await the ...

  • Dalai Lama Classic

Great movie about Tibet’s Dalai Lama. China not depicted in a favorable light. Disney owns the rights to the movie and is suppressing the movie to appease China. Cancel culture.
