Why did I buy this? To be entertained! Was I? Yes! This 1999 movie deserved a lot more attention than it ever got. Perhaps a little late for the whole "accept Gays" movement, but a very well produced film that will keep you entertained through several viewings. The plot, in short, is that a cheerleader has some possible lesbian qualities, so her parents send her to "straight camp." Of course, she just discovers that she really is a lesbian, falls in love with a hot chick, and everyone accepts it. Except Mom. See, just like real life! Along the way, a non-drag RuPaul gives a fantastic performance; Richard Moll, the guard from Night Court, gives a cute if not very convincing gay performance. The rest of the cast are well casted and convincing, with the star, Natasha Lyonne, being cheerleader-lesbian adorable. But, the real star is the fast moving plot itself, and all the absurdities of straight camp, where the females are forced into wearing ultra-feminine clothing and housework, while the guys, wearing baby blue, check their package and fix cars. Lots of sub plots, a mean camp commandant with her own issues, and a lezzy make-out scene that you probably don't want to show the young-uns. But, pure good entertainment, well done and fun! I'm not one for comedies, but I gave up quite and few chuckles with this completely sarcastic and funny take on homophobics trying "correct" gay behavior. A highschool cheerleader walks into an intervention which includes her parents, friends, and her perfect boyfriend. She's sent off to a "repair" school with other young people to get "straightened out"- Hysterical! The girls wear pink and guys in blue and a male dressed RuPaul as an instructor! Our cheerleader confronts herself as a gay teenager and falls in love while in school. The hidden affair finds trouble but at graduation a cheer motivates a positive choice for this gay couple. Great acting by all. Funny, enjoyable, excellent writing, and great analogies. Enjoyable.
A vegetarian, with hero worship posters of females and a boyfriend must be gay. Shipped off to stop the gayness boot camp. Once there, they convince her she is a lesbian. She does what any good lesbian would do. She gets a fellow female camper as her lover. Got to love it! Wonder what would have happened with loving/ understanding parents.

A fun, albeit a little strange, comedy about being yourself no matter what other people think. There's a great cast of actors. It's definitely one of my favorite movies.
