It was a huge relief to find out, through the exercises and examples, stories and anecdotes that I am not alone in needing to have quiet, mostly solitary work, and low-key interaction with other people. Anyone who gets stressed-out being out and about in the world MUST read this book. The author outlines some simple strategies for coping with the stresses of our loud and demanding society. I am still jumping back and forth in the book and constantly having "Ah-ha's!" about myself. I highly recommend it to artists of any stripe, and anyone who feels they must be crazy for not fitting in with "the crowd".
If you are in fact a highly sensitive person this book will put your whole entire life into perspective. Rather than thinking that you're just a quirky anxiety ridden person you will fully understand this situation that you have. I cannot say enough good things about this book and what it has done to change my entire life in a positive direction. I no longer feel guilty for all the little things that I am required to do and not do to keep my sanity and happiness. For example, I must retreat to my home between social events to relax for one hour otherwise I am so besides myself I cannot continue to socialize in these events. I could list 100 other things about myself that make me clearly I highly sensitive person and I have been one since the day I was born. This book has allowed me to explain my personality and what I need and do not need to mind tire family and my whole life has change for the positive.Read full review

I have always known that I was different from everyone else. I just never knew why. From reading this book, which a friend suggested that I read, I learned that I had am an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) and that I have a finely tuned nervous system. This causes things to bother me more than what it would non-HSPs. The book has taught me to see the traits from being highly sensitive and how to accept them as good. Many people in our society see things such "shy" or "anti-social" as bad and they put a label on us. The book helps to rid of those labels and change your life in a way that benefits being highly and how to thrive in the world. I recommend this book, not only to HSPs, but to those that have family members that are HSPs. It will help both parties to understand one another better.Read full review
It was one of the first, if not the first, book on sensitivity in a culture that seems to value toughness and thick skin. How many times do we hear or say “stop being so sensitive!” It’s not wrong to be sensitive. It’s a great intro to understanding our sensitive loved ones.
