If you enjoy shooting, you know that the more control you have over the gun, the more safely, accurately, and deliberately you can use it. Rubber finger grooves on the front strap of a handgun can give you that extra grip and margin of control. The Pearce company in Texas makes a finger groove insert that is a perfect fit for the Colt Government Model 1911. It can also be used with any other handgun with the same dimensions and configuration. The Pearce grip is a wraparound type and is very easy to install. It consists of a vertical strip containing the grooves with a thin rubber wing on each side. The first thing you have to do is unscrew the panel grips on both sides. Then, fit the rubber grips under the panels and do any minor edge trimming that may be necessary for a perfect fit. Put the panel grips back on, and replace the screws. The side pieces of the rubber grip are each only 1 millimeter thick, so it won't change the profile of the pistol grip to the point that it is noticeable. This finger groove insert can be used with any grip panels that are on the handgun. You do not have to sacrifice your favorite grips or permanently alter the pistol. The Pearce add-on is matte black and complements the look of wood, pearlite, simulated ivory, or any other pattern or material that makes up your gun's side grips. The rubber is strong and high-quality and will not deteriorate and detract from the appearance of your handgun. In fact, most users think it makes the handgun more attractive. It is also light enough that it will not add any noticeable heft. The purpose of finger inserts is to give you better control of your handgun. After installing the grips, many people find that their guns are more comfortable and feel more secure in their hands. The non-slip surface to the forward edge of the handgun makes the weapon easier to shoot.
