Sometimes a step backwards is good.

There is no way mental health can bill without the diagnostic codes. But DSM 5 has nested with diagnostic codes are disorders which need to be studied often to refresh. DSM 5 inspiite of its generous verbiage has made refresh study very hard because they have disordered the normal plan of DSM. Sreppng back helps to move into the changes to 5. For me 4TR needs to be used.

  • The psychology Bible! Extremely useful, extraordinarily valuable!

I purchased my copy of DSM-IV-TR for an upcoming class, as it is a required text. Although DSM V is coming out very soon, DSM-IV-TR still proves itself useful time and time again. As a student, I us diagnostic criteria for assignments and to take more thorough notes for class; for either case, the DSM is very easily navigated. I dislike some of the terminology used, especially in regards to gender noncomformant clients; I feel that such individuals are still pathologized in this edition. Ultimately, DSM-IV-TR is the by far the best in a long line of DSMs, and I look forward to the next edition.

  • Diagnostic and statistical manual

The book was in very good condition, and was as described. i would recoomend it to all psychology or counselling students, as it gives an excellent and descriptive overview of almost all mental disorders, and illnessnes as well as the symptoms and tools for diagnosis. It is faily simple to understand, and very useful for looking at the medical perspective of illness. As with all leading texts there are many problems with this manual, in question of ethics and categorization, which is currently under investigation, however this is the most well rounded manual and tool availible for diagnosis, and student reference.

  • DSM-IV-TR

While this book was written by and for mental health professionals, I would highly recommend it for any one in either the social service or legal service professions as a valuable guide to better understanding certain of their clients, and their behavior(s). A review of the symtoms/actions of those with a probable mental health problem could indicate a need for professional intervention, and how critically needed such intervention might be. It could also be useful to the families of many of those with addiction disorders as well, giving them a better understanding of not only what it is that they are dealing with, but also what to look for in the way of both good or bad signs. I hold that anything that helps the care-givers get a better understanding of their 'patient' is conducive to a ...
