About this product

Product Information

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - The fifth book in Diana Gabaldon's acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series. "A grand adventure written on a canvas that probes the heart, weighs the soul and measures the human spirit across [centuries]."--CNN The year is 1771, and war is coming. Jamie Fraser's wife tells him so. Little as he wishes to, he must believe it, for hers is a gift of dreadful prophecy--a time-traveler's certain knowledge. Born in the year of Our Lord 1918, Claire Randall served England as a nurse on the battlefields of World War II, and in the aftermath of peace found fresh conflicts when she walked through a cleftstone on the Scottish Highlands and found herself an outlander, an English lady in a place where no lady should be, in a time--1743--when the only English in Scotland were the officers and men of King George's army. Now wife, mother, and surgeon, Claire is still an outlander, out of place, and out of time, but now, by choice, linked by love to her only anchor--Jamie Fraser. Her unique view of the future has brought him both danger and deliverance in the past; her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through the perilous years ahead--or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes.

    Wonderful Book.

I am a big fan of the entire Outlander series. The Fiery Cross is excellent along with all the other books. I have read this book previously and wished to have a larger print size trade paperback rather than a smaller paperback with smaller print.

  • Adventure in the Wilderness At the Dawn of American's Revolution

This is the fifth book in the Outlander saga. It was wonderful and drew both laughter and tears from me, but it felt very much like a transitionary (set up) part of the story as I read it. There are several threads and new storylines with some resolving and some to be continued. One part of the story that nagged me from earlier in the series was satisfyingly dealt with in this part (can't tell you or I'd spoil it). This one did have the added interest of a murder mystery. Some people aren't really gungho on transitory type books, but I am not one of them. In a series of this nature with big plot and lots of threads, it's abso-necessary. I know Ms. Gabaldon is going to deliver so I'm not worried as I know its leading to something bigger and ultimately will satisfy. As stated, this is not ...

  • Another great book in the saga of Jamie and Claire.

Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series of books are some of the greatest romance novels of our time. The Fiery Cross is just as spellbinding as the books leading up to it in this saga, and the writing is so gripping and transports the reader to that place in time. She has the ability to describe people and events in the mind's eye - the main characters are so loveable, and you can visualize the people, places, and times. There was nothing I disliked about this book - love all her books from this series, as well as The Fiery Cross. Just hoping and waiting for a TV mini series or a movie trilogy to come out. Sign me: A fan of the Outlander saga.

  • Red Hot On Fire novel.. slow to start, gripping in end.

I can not rave enough on this book and the entire series. The characters are so real to me now I expect them to walk in the room. This is a time travel book and is full of historical facts, events from 18th century Scotland. Gabaldon is very acurate of Scottish life in this time period. this story is placed in the American colonies with the same characters from the previous books. A romantic story full of love, hate, war, highland violence and intrugue. Language is moderate. Some sex, but scenes are not overly offensive. Characters are bright and vivid. Very LONG books, but they did end too soon! I Recommend all the Outlander books by this author.

  • The Time-Traveling Outlander Series Rocks On!

One only buys a part of a series if one is enmeshed in the series. THE OUTLANDER SERIES, by Diana Gabaldon, is one of those adventure stories that grab readers in the first book and keep us scrabbling to get the next book, and the next. My delight in this, the fifth book (beautifully conceived and written as are all the others), was only marred by the realization that it didn't end the series! There is a next one yet unpublished. I CAN'T WAIT!!! So, start with THE OUTLANDER. Part time-travel fantasy, part historical fantasy, part hot romantic thriller, it defies catagorization. But it's a hellava good read! I just hope the next one comes out soon...
