    Wonderful book for beginners or as a refresher

    This book isn't overwhelming its great for the novices or someone that needs a refresher. Very well written. Easy to understand but not over simplified to where its confusing. High regards for this book and author.

    Bottom line: good book for a start, although light on the 'techniques'.

    I bought this book and a set of artists pencils to get into sketching. I'm not very artistic, but wish I was...I like art, but my attempts always seem juvenile. Well, I dove in and started from the top, and I must say I've impressed myself with the results. I made some respectable sketches! The book has several still life exercises, starting with small, simple objects like a walnut or egg, and progresses to complex scenes. As a complete beginner, I found it helpful, and I've learned a lot about shading. I do wish the book got more in depth as far as technique, it really says very little about the mechanics or tricks of the trade. It focuses more on a step by step breakdown of each specific exercise. But hey, it helped me produce some drawings that I was proud to call my own...my egg REALLY ...

    Pencil Drawing by Gene Franks (1990, Paperback)

    Item was as stated, no problems with condition of book. Very satisfied.Item was used in teaching a 10 year old boy how to draw with pencil. This book was helpful in every ways, showing how to use the pencils, kinds of pencils, content showed how to start a drawing to completion of subject matter. This book though out of date, it is ageless and priceless, as it is still a very good book to use today in teaching and learning the subject matter.
