  • "A Woman's Place" by Lynn Austin

I purchased the novel, "A Woman's Place" by Lynn Austin, afte my blind sister called to say she had just completed listening to the talking book version of it. The book wasn't available at the local library but was found immediately on EBay at a reasonable price. The setting is World War II in a ship yard and it is a story about four women from diffeent backgrounds who come to work there. Austin describes the harassment these ladies endured during the time they worked at man's trade instead of staying in their "place" at home. They broke many culture rules while doing what they could to suppor the war effort and their courage led the way to the women's right this country has today. What was especially interesting, to me, was reliving the memory of those war years. It was necessary for ...

  • A historical fiction work that you will hate to finish!

Lynn Austin takes the reader back to 1941 when Japan bombs Pearl Harbor and times were different for women. The author introduces us to four Rosie the Riveters, who for different reasons, begin to work at the ship building factory in Stockton, Michigan. One is married to a domineering man, who believes that a woman's place is working at home, keeping him and his children happy. Another woman is a flashy, New York Italian bride who is living with her strait-laced in-laws while her husband goes to war. The third lady is a girl who dreams of attending college when the war ends, and the fourth lady is the town's wealthy spinster. I felt as if I had read four books for the price of one!

  • Warm-hearted story of overcoming expectations

This book is fantastic. Taking place during world war 2 we get to see it through the perspective of four different women, from four different walks of life, who come together at a workplace, they wouldn't have been allowed to work before the war. They bond as friends and fight for each other in a touching way.

the COVER AND STORYLINE SOUNDED INTERESTING IS WHY I BOUCHT IT, WHEN I STARTED THIS BOOK I REALIZED I WAS RIGHT. GOOD STORY. THE ONLY THING I DID NOT LIKE ABOUT THIS BOOK WAS THE COVER WAS REALLY THIN AND KEPT FOLDING BACK ON ME. HARD TO HANDLE. BUT THAT IS MINIMAL IF THE STORY IS GOOD
