About this product

Product Information

This debut novel is based on the true story of Carrie McGavock. During the Civil War's Battle of Franklin, a five-hour bloodbath with 9,200 casualties, McGavock's home was turned into a field hospital where four generals died. For 40 years she tended the private cemetery on her property where more than 1,000 were laid to rest.

  • Great story. Great price!

It left me wanting more. I got very wrapped up in the story and hopefully one day will be able to visit Franklin and see Carrie's home and graveyard for myself. I originally bought the book as entertainment but it did so much more than just entertain me. I hope this writer does more of this type of story. I would love to hear more of Mariah's story and Zachariah's younger years as well.

  • You'll learn how the people rebuilt their lives, or tried to.

The book is very well written, using characters and events that really happened. The reader comes away with a clearer idea of how they lived and why they reacted the way they did, including the lives of freed slaves, and their new circumstances. Life after the war was tough in the South, and you'll learn why.

  • Unintentional entanglements in war

This is a great historical novel. I have read it more than one and gifted it as well. The historical site in the book is just past Nashville Tennessee which after you have read the book is a must visit. Seeing where the story takes place brings the book alive. Book arrived quickly in great shape.

  • History comes alive

Based on an actual battle of the Civil War, this historical novel makes that gripping event come alive. Fascinating.
