Was quite pleased to see the DVD release of Blade Runner 2049 only a scant few months after its run in theaters. It was worthy of the anticipation. The picture quality, color and sound are all very good in my book. It's packaged in a nice clamshell case with excellent front cover illustration and back cover notes. The overall story is quite engaging, contains some powerful dystopian futuristic settings, with a number of interesting characters and is an epic adventure for protagonist Agent K who comes to suspect he is the offspring of former Blade Runner Rick Deckard. It's definitely a worthy successor to 1982's Ridley Scott original Blade Runner cult-favorite. Destined to be yet another cult classic in this niche. Quite truly a good value. If you haven't seen this one yet, you should give it a look; even if you have, it's worth one, two or even ten more viewings to take-in all the little things you might've missed before.Read full review

This movie takes place in the same city as Bladrunner did except you would never know it. What little you see of it consist of money saving sets with little happening and the plot occuring outside the city. This is a obvous plot that really could have been done with characters who stare alot and not much happens. Too bad.

Perhaps this review is premature. I have only seen the movie once. However, for whatever reason, BR 2049 does not seem to have the mystique that the original did. Musical backgrounds are not truly there to enhance the scenes as in the original. The entire movie is almost too surrealistic. Some scene changes have no explanation, and continuity in the story line suffers. It also seems to me that the original character's insertion (Ford's) in the sequel ought to have been written for an earlier part of the movie. At the risk of being unfair, I would say there is a lack of depth to the characters, so that except for the Harrison Ford character and 'the girl in the bubble' there is nothing truly memorable about the others. Mind you, I am not one of those who expects that a sequel to any story or movie to be a near clone of the original. I did not even find the human value message as in the first version, as in the speech given by the Rutger Hauer replicant as he is about to die, and let us not forget he just saved the Ford Blade Runner from falling to a certain death. The message here was that even a replicant could harbor compassion, and could even perform an act of heroism by pulling Deckerd (sp?) back onto the roof of that rainy building. Oh, and the dove taking flight as the Hauer character dies.Read full review

If you only have a DVD player, so you don't have Blue-ray and don't stream video, then this DVD is a cheap option. It was difficult to find the DVD as it seemed that the Blue-ray was being pushed. To understand BR 2049 though, you really need to see the shorts that the director commissioned to explain what happened between Bladerunner 1 and 2, which are not included in the DVD, so I watched them online. Even so, BR 2049 was hard to follow. We have original replicants, new replicants and a holographic girlfriend. The only character I liked was the gf! It's a thought-provoking movie, not typical Hollywood at all.

If you enjoyed Blade Runner (1982) then you will certainly enjoy Blade Runner 2049. While 2049 stands by itself as a great sci-fi movie it's an excellent continuation of the Blade Runner story. I gotta give "2049" 4 stars, though. That's because the original Blade Runner gets 5 stars, hands down.
