Silent Hill is an atmospheric and dramatic horror film which may be a bit too "grown up" for many of the gamers who make up it's core audience. If you're expecting babes, boobs, zombies and explosions, go rent one of the many woefully bad Resident Evil movies. Fans of the game series will notice that the town of Silent Hill is lovingly recreated here, complete with many of the monsters made (in)famous by the game. Monsters like the Patient and Nurse demons and the mysterious, monstrous Pyramid Head make memorable appearances. But the worst villains seem to be the humans, who bring down their own damnation on themselves in the name of fighting evil. Is Silent Hill perfect? No. There are some glaring plot holes and inconsistencies for the careful viewer to ponder. The scenes in the "real" world aren't as important as the filmmakers seemed to think. Music from the Silent Hill game series is folded into the movie soundtrack, including some truly haunting melodies. On Blu-Ray this film looks as good (or better) than it did in the theaters. With a 1080p HDTV, you'll get the full impact of Blu-Ray. To sum up, Silent Hill is a movie that has many elements of psychological horror and a nightmarish quality that viewers won't soon forget.Read full review
I really enjoyed the Playstation 2 Silent Hill 3 video game from years back. It was a dark & creepy horror game of puzzles and action, especially when played at night and in the darkness with the surround sound turned up. This method really pulled me into the game environment and made me feel creepy with a constant urge to keep my character turning around, never knowing what’s lurking behind. It was a blast. So naturally, I was excited about the Silent Hill movie adaptation. The film was not at all what I had expected but still a creative and enjoyable experience nonetheless. Silent Hill is not a real shocker or what I would consider a nightmare maker but it does a fine job of maintaining that dark creepiness synonymous to the original game and does pull you into its world with some unique special effects. I also noticed the music of the Silent Hill 3 game soundtrack was present in the movie which is a delight even though in such short sequences. At any rate, I enjoyed the Silent Hill film enough to spend the extra cash on the Blu-Ray version. The sound quality is exceptional and the uncompressed 5.1 PCM audio is available if your Blu-Ray player supports this feature. In terms of the picture quality, you might want to save your money however. The edition does not hold up to the Blu-Ray standards of quality by any means (excluding the audio). I noticed a lot of picture blemishes and other nuisances that were a great disappointment and detracted from full enjoyment. Had I known to the real degree of lacking picture quality, I would have stuck with my original DVD copy and avoided the costly Blu-Ray edition. But I had to see for myself and I can definitely validate the picture shortcomings of BD with the complaints of other reviewers. And if you are looking for all those extras that usually come with Blu-Ray Discs, forget about it. Silent Hill has none to offer except for 3 movie previews. So if you enjoy horror films and special effects or any of the Silent Hill video games, then Silent Hill is definitely a great choice. As for the media format, if you want exceptional picture quality I would cross my fingers and patiently wait for a hopeful re-mastered Blu-Ray edition (such was done with The Fifth Element, a huge improvement over the first Blu-Ray edition). But if money is of no object, then by all means, buy the current Silent Hill Blu-Ray. You’ll at least get to enjoy the excellent audio track as aforementioned. Otherwise, the standard edition DVD would be the way to go. And that’s my 2 cents!Read full review
This is probably one of my favorite horror films. That is the most creepy, the one that has stuck with me most of my life since watching it. I love it!

First of all I'm not sure how well the movie follows the game and really don't care. The movie aside from the game has one of the best horror plots I've seen. It's creepy, very dark, keeps you wondering and has great acting. I seen it on Netflix never knowing there was a Silent Hill movie. After watching it a few times, I'm buying it to watch it some more.
