Burr and cast are excellent and Burr is fun to watch as the gruff former Chief of Detecives paralysed by an attempted assasination. With the debut of this series, Burr had another hit after his long time stint on Perry Mason. It is interesting to watch the development of the supporting characters and the background scenes of San Francisco as the Ironside van moves around the city. I wish there had been some mention of the development of the series, background or behind the scenes information. I loved this show and never missed an episode in its original airing. Watch for Ironside theme composer playing a role of a jazz musician in one of the episodes. Fun ! Raymond Burr was a formidable man and a fine actor. He demonstrates another facet of himself as the paraplegic Robert T. Ironside. We see him in his weakest, most vulnerable moments as he adjusts to maintaining his career, with all his energy and brilliant intellect, finding new direction as he copes with life in a wheelchair.I am confined to a wheelchair myself, although my enemy is arthritis and I do not have the added challenge of paralysis. It is an adjustment, however, and I find myself cheering on his efforts to keep his policeman's life full and rewarding despite his physical limitations. The episodes are very well-written with lots of interesting dialogue and situations. An added bonus are the guest stars on various episodes, including James Gregory, Ricardo Montalban,Geraldine Brooks, and many more great actors. The score by Quincy Jones adds much to the overall series and sets the stage for the drama to unfold. Clear, defined play on these discs and superior sound. A quality purchase you will not regret.Read full review
He is not a likable character! If I had seen Ironside before the Perry Mason series...I would not have watched Perry Mason (which is an excellent show).
